Director at SJB Architects, Adam Haddow is an architect and urban designer. A Churchill Fellow, Adam investigated alternatives to conventional models of urban design. The sabbatical resulted in a research project entitled ‘Shall We Dense’ an examination into the state of modern density living in Australia. Adam’s diverse experience and creative expertise is recognised by numerous architectural accolades, including international awards for Casba, winner of the 2015 World Architecture Festival for mixed-use completed buildings; and Cleveland Rooftop winner of the 2018 Architizer A+ Award, residential apartment. In 2014, he was creative director of the Australian National Architecture Conference.

Alison McCabe Director, Planning, Sydney

Alison has over 35 years of experience in statutory and strategic planning for state and local government and private practice. In conjunction with Stuart McDonald, Alison started SJB Planning NSW in 2005. Prior to this, she was Director of Environmental and Community Management for Leichhardt Council. Alison is experienced in all facets of urban and regional planning, including local government administration and statutory processes, policy development, public participation, appeals and conflict resolution. She holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, University of New England; and a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law, Sydney University and has lectured on planning at Sydney’s University of Technology.

Amanda Ring Director, Planning, Melbourne

Amanda is a director of SJB Planning and has occupied planning positions in both public and private sectors, providing her with considerable experience in both strategic and statutory planning. In 1987 Amanda joined the Department of Planning, and worked with both the Department’s heritage branch and the Historic Buildings Council, managing regional heritage issues. Christina is a registered architect with 30 years professional experience across both disciplines of architecture and interior design. She has extensive experience in all phases of project delivery from concept design to design development, co-ordination of detailed documentation and specifications, to construction including contract administration. Christina has worked on a diverse range of projects in urban, rural and coastal environments including private residences, residential development, tourist development, adaptive reuse and building refurbishment, retail and hospitality design, commercial office design, and prefabricated modular building systems.

Claire Murray Principal, Planning, Perth, Melbourne

Claire joined SJB Planning in January 2011 and has over 12 years’ town planning experience. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Planning and Environment Studies) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Management) at the University of Melbourne, Claire began her career as an economic and planning consultant with SGS  in Melbourne before completing a Master of Science (Spatial Planning) at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Claire relocated to Perth in 2005, taking up a consultancy position and gaining significant statutory and strategic planning experience. In 2010, Claire returned to Melbourne working on an extensive range of commercial, residential and mixed-use developments, including the Polaris Estate in Bundoora which comprises large-scale commercial, residential and heritage precincts in Melbourne's north. Nigel Morris Senior Associate, Architecture, Melbourne

Originally from the UK, Nigel Morris studied at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and the Architectural Association School in London. He has experience of a range of project types and scales. In the UK, Europe and South-East Asia he completed residential, education, hospitality and arts projects. These provided specific experience of complex multi-stakeholder schemes and early stage briefing and design development. Nigel has won several international design competitions. Is a founding director of SJB Planning. Studied at RMIT and completed a Diploma of Applied Science (Town Planning) (Hons) in 1981. Scott Barwick Director, Planning, Sydney

Scott Barwick has more than 20 years’ planning experience in government and private practice. Before joining SJB Planning NSW, Scott had worked in consultancy before establishing his own practice. He is experienced in preparing strategic planning instruments and advising on their interpretation and implementation for government and private clients. His development experience ranges from single residential proposals to large-scale urban land release, mixed residential and industrial projects. He also provides expert evidence to the NSW Land and Environment Court.

Sevda Cetin Associate, Architecture, Sydney

Sevda received a Bachelor of Architecture from Sydney University in 1995 and joined SJB in 2013. Working in many large Sydney practices in the last 20 years, Sevda’s experience ranges from commercial fit-outs, hospitality, child care centres, mixed-use towers, large-scale multi-unit residential projects and single dwellings. Sevda focuses on creating close client/architect relationships while maintaining the highest level of communication to achieve quality architectural outcomes.

Simon Smith Associate, SJB Planning, Sydney

Simon has over 14 years experience in development planning for state and local governments and private practice in Australia and the United Kingdom. He is experienced in a wide range of urban and regional planning assessment including local government administration, statutory processes, public participation, appeals and conflict resolution. His development experience ranges from single residential proposals to large scale mixed-use projects.

Stefanie Hughes Associate, Architecture, Sydney

Stefanie Hughes joined SJB in 2011. She works across a wide range and scale of projects with a particular interest in boutique multi-residential and adaptive re-use projects. She credits her strong sense of design clarity necessary in complex projects on her early background in the health, defence and nuclear sectors. With a strong design focus Stefanie thrives in the early stages of a project often working on competitions and schematic submissions. She is equally attentive to the detail and finishing required to elevate a project and engage end users prioritising a sense of playfulness. While at SJB she has developed and honed her multimedia skills from producing 3D imagery to compiling full animation sequences.

Stuart Gordon Associate, Planning, Sydney

Stuart Gordon became an associate of SJB Planning in 2011. He gained a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of New England in 2002. He has worked in the public and private sectors and has experience of local government administration and statutory processes, policy development, conservation, land use planning, land subdivision, planning proposals and appeals, and community consultation. He prepared rural resource lands strategy plans for Baulkham Hills, Campbelltown, Gosford, Hawkesbury, Hornsby, Penrith and Wollondilly Councils and the Department of Planning. Stuart has acted as an expert witness for the NSW Land and Environment Court.

Stuart McDonald Director, Planning, Sydney

For more than 25 years, Stuart McDonald has worked in the planning, development and building professions, both in government and private practice. Before starting SJB Planning NSW, Stuart held senior planning positions in NSW local government: as director of planning at the City of Sydney and South Sydney City, and director of environmental management at Leichhardt Council. Stuart is experienced in statutory and strategic planning. He frequently provides senior level policy and strategic advice to the NSW Department of Planning, the Central Sydney Planning Committee and local authorities, as well as expert evidence to the NSW Land and Environment Court.

Tristan Wong Director, Architecture, Melbourne

Tristan’s innovative thinking and bold solutions have helped drive positive lifestyle and wellbeing outcomes and immeasurable environmental benefits. Victoria Judge Interiors Team Leader, Architecture, Sydney

Victoria is an accomplished Interior Designer with more than 20 years’ experience in the design and delivery of diverse and complex interior design projects of varied types and scales. Having studied at the University of Technology, Sydney, where she graduated with First Class Honours and the University Medal, Victoria is committed to achieving high quality, considered design outcomes. Her organised, focused and thorough work approach ensures she delivers thoughtful and responsive designs. Victoria brings to SJB strong experience with an interdisciplinary design approach and collaboration across streams which, combined with her expertise in materials, use of colour and textiles, facilitates the consistent delivery of sophisticated and functional interior designs.
