Adam Haddow Director, Architecture, Sydney

Director at SJB Architects, Adam Haddow is an architect and urban designer. A Churchill Fellow, Adam investigated alternatives to conventional models of urban design. The sabbatical resulted in a research project entitled ‘Shall We Dense’ an examination into the state of modern density living in Australia. Adam’s diverse experience and creative expertise is recognised by numerous architectural accolades, including international awards for Casba, winner of the 2015 World Architecture Festival for mixed-use completed buildings; and Cleveland Rooftop winner of the 2018 Architizer A+ Award, residential apartment. In 2014, he was creative director of the Australian National Architecture Conference.

Amanda Roberts Director, Urban Design, Melbourne

Amanda Roberts brings her architecture, landscape architecture and planning expertise to a range of urban design projects. Amanda is a big-picture strategist who prefers to work collaboratively with her clients and project partners. She brings clarity to complex urban design issues and is an exceptional communicator with experience in community engagement and workshop facilitation. She is passionate about her work ensuring her projects contribute to diverse, successful and safe public environments.

Brodie Blades Associate Director, Urban Design, Melbourne

Brodie is an accomplished urban designer who specialises in pragmatically ‘bridging the gap’ between urban design and development regulation. He is fluent in both design and statutory regulation and is driven to facilitate urban design outcomes that are responsive, elegant and authentic. In addition to his masterplanning and design policy skillset, Brodie has been called upon to provide urban design expert evidence in numerous complex matters before planning Tribunals and Panels in Victoria - including multiple central-city Melbourne matters on behalf of the Victorian Minister for Planning.

Francisco Layson Studio Director, Urban Design, Sydney

Francisco has qualifications and professional experience in Urban Design and Architecture. Graduating with a Masters of Architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in the top 15% of his class, his studies primarily focused on Environmental performance and Urban Design. Since graduating Francisco has tutored 2nd and 3rd year architectural students in these fields at UTS and is currently leading SJB’s parametric modelling program. During the past 5 years Francisco has developed a unique breadth of skills and experience from his work in both the public and private sector, where he has become accustomed to working and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Jonathan Knapp Director, Urban Design, Sydney

Director and founder of SJB Urban in Sydney, Jonathan’s background in urban design, architecture and planning informs his interest in finding robust solutions to urban problems through a responsive, collaborative design process. His experience spans complex large-scale master plans, strategic plans and frameworks, built form studies and policy guidelines, to planning proposals and development guidance and advice. With a focus on urban renewal and regeneration projects, mixed-use schemes and transit-oriented development, Jonathan is committed to shaping vibrant cities through place-based design outcomes and planning approaches that balance the needs of today with the capacity for future growth. His commitment to sharing and debating ideas is reflected in his lecturing at UNSW, University of Sydney, UTS and the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA).
